Final Reflection on my blogs

  1. An area you still need improvement in –

Copy and paste a paragraph or two of your writing as an example and explain the weaknesses you see.  Link to the post.

I think the area that I have most of my doubt is about commas. Those are kind of my least experienced area. I learned a good amount about them in high school and I think this course refreshed me on those skills. I think that I just need to hound more down on that and memorize it, so I don’t make those mistakes again. I see that weakness in almost all the posts I have done. Except the ones that we went over in class. The one that I notice it the most is in “Whys Blogs?”. This is the paragraph. “Personally I don’t believe that It takes ten thousand hours to become an expert stated by Malcom Gladwell. I know several people that are really good at there job and haven’t worked ten thousand hours that that job. For me riding a bike didn’t take ten thousand hours to master, so I don’t support their statement that becoming an expert takes ten thousand hours. I believe that what he is saying about intrinsic motivation to be true.” The first word is an example. There should be a comma behind the “Personally”.

  •  An area you improved in –

Copy and paste a paragraph or two of your writing as an example and explain the improvements you see. Link to the post. The area that I improved in was mainly quotes because I fully know what is going on with the quotes. That shows in all my blog posts. One that I can point out is “Seeing Ourselves Though Technology” Chapter 2 because in there I quote a piece from the book and put the page number too. The paragraph is in “Seeing Ourselves Though Technology” Chapter two the author Rettberg talks about all the different kinds of filters in the world and also around us. In the article Rettberg states “filter is the process where something is being removed.”(21).

  •  An area you feel more confident about –

Copy and paste a paragraph or two of your writing as an example and explain why you feel more confident in this area. Link to the post.

I feel mainly confident about everything that we have done in this course. Like quotes, peanut butter and jelly and integrating sources. The blog post that mainly shows/describes what I mean is  “Reflection on “Imaging the blogosphere” because that was one of the first one that we started to do all the sources and quotations in, so that was a basses of all my other blogs. “Today we will be going over the refection of the “Imagining the blogosphere”. We will be going over my thoughts, struggles, pros and cons, and more. This will be the insight of what I was going though while reading this and how I felt afterwards.” In the first paragraph is a good example of what I mean. I linked the title.

  • Your proudest moment –

Copy and paste a paragraph or two of your writing as an example and explain why you feel particularly proud of this piece of writing. Link to the post.

One of my proudest moment was when we had to start adding sources and quotes because it really made the piece of writing more professional and more filled. For example, the first one that we included the quotes and sources was Reflection on “Imaging the biosphere”. That one was probably my favorite to do because the writing had all those guarantied. The second thing that I was most proud of was making my first mentor blog “Mentor Blog for Greece”. I feel like that was probably my best and I spent more time on it when really any other and I really thought that that one had my best work. I am overall proud of my work that I have done.

  • Complete this reflection by writing a paragraph expressing things you gained from this course and how you plan to apply that in your future endeavors.

I gained the ability to integrate sources better then, I could before. The integrating sources will come in handy when I must write papers in the past. I will hopefully remember how to do it, but we will see. The second thing I gained and was the ability to add pictures into WordPress. If I do continue to write on here, I will probably add pictures to the posts that I write. I have gained a lot from this course mostly what I have already learned. It mainly refreshed my mind. In “Reflection on “Imaging the biosphere” I integrated sources and linked and quoted in this blog.

Fiji

When I was younger I always thought that this country was weird and unique. I thought it was unique because it was a island country. I didn’t think that an country could be so spread out. Turns out now that I’m older and looked more at this country I realized that they aren’t as spread out as the main land of the United States and Hawaii and Alaska are from the majority of the states. I liked that it had a tropical vibe to it. The clear water, warm, tropical look, feel and isolated.

The main reason that I want to go there is because it’s so beautiful and that it will be a once in a life time vacation. I’ve have a plan on going here since I was a little squirt. I mentioned it to my girlfriend and she would come with later in life. I think that that would be an amazing time experiencing that with her. When I go there I would want to go scuba diving and to go on the glass bottom boat and observe the marine life from above and even while I’m in the water scuba diving. I would also like to sit on the beach and watch the sun set and just enjoy it without a care in the world. I think it would be cool to interact in the natives tradition and see what they do and see how different it is from like ours. I would like to do many more activities, but I can’t think of anymore off the top of my head. I really think that this trip would be a major stress reliever because I’m always stressed and I think it would be different and also good to feel different and stress free.

On my mental note this place is about top five. I have it placed at third. It is right after Caribbean and before Italy. I choose Fiji over Italy because it’s good to relax and not have to worry about things. Now that I think about it I could do like a history related place then a relaxing place like Fiji and the Caribbean. I chose the Caribbean over Fiji because ever since I was a child I really wanted to go to the Caribbean. I wanted to go to that place before I even knew about the Fiji, but yeah those are the reasons why I put Fiji where I did and why it got placed where it did.

Mentor Blog “Sightseeing in Fiji”

This week I’m writing about Little About Everything Travel blog. She visited Fiji in September, 2013. she goes on to explain for us how many islands and islets. Islets are just a really small island. there are in the country. There are three hundred and thirty island and one hundred and ten islands that are permanently inhabitable. She tells us that there are over five hundred islets. She says that that’s the perfect get away and honeymoon. I agree with that. I think that sounds perfect too. Fiji is a part of the Polynesian islands and is located in the South Pacific Ocean. She goes on to tell us that it is connected to Brisbane and Sydney from the Polynesian islands. Brisbane and Sydney are on the South Eastern side of Australia if you didn’t know. The island that the author are talking about run though the Coral sea on the Eastern side of Australia just to give you some what of a direction on there these are all at.

On her journey she will be on the islands of Yasawa. The first island they visit is called Nacula Island. They stayed for two nights. Then they woke up and did all there essential things they went to the ferry at Port Denarau. The ferry took them to all the islands in the Yasawa area, so they got to see the beauty of the area and get to pick where they were going to stay for the next fifteen days. Which took five hours to get back to the port. After the ferry ride they go to a resort called Blue Lagoon Resort. the resort they booked was facing the Bure. Later that day they were brought by a vocal tour to a cave to go snorkeling. Which i think seems like the best part. I know if I was brought there that would be my favorite part.

The second night they stayed at White Sandy Beach, Naviti. They were welcomed to the island by the traditional song Bula. The activities on the island included snorkeling, Kayaking, and climbing a tree for coconuts.

The third night they stayed at Matacawa Levu Island Long Beach Resort. The long beach is located in between two island. During certain periods of high tides the beach gets covered with water at least waist high. Then during low tides the beach is walk-able without stepping in water. When they went on the trip there was a period of low tide which was a perfect for them not to have to cross the water or even using the ferry. Where was an interesting event that took place when they arrived they got summoned by guests by beating up a hollow tree to show that food was ready. They stayed on the island for three nights.

The forth night they stayed at South Sea Island. South Sea Island is a very small island that you can walk around in just fifteen minutes. On this island they don’t have any bures, so it’s a very tropical resort. When you are ready for bed you go and sleep in some bunks and there is a common toilet. It’s really for the backpacking type of crowd. The island doesn’t have really anything for activities. It is mainly used as a transit to get to the grand resort called Castaway Island. The resort offered a free glass bottom boat that would tour the island. With the glass bottom you could see the marine life. They didn’t end up during that because they wanted to get to the main land and drive three day’s to the capital. The capital is called Suva.

Caribbean

Ever since I was younger I always wanted to go to the Caribbean. I think I got further introduced to it by a game that I played when I was younger. That game is called Assassins Creed Black Flag or Pirates of the Caribbean series. That is a game that you are a pirate and you get to travel around the seas and fine artifacts and kill Templar’s. Templars are the main antagonist in this series and they are looking for a way to have world domination and I’m pretty sure everyone knows what the Pirates of the Caribbean is.

I didn’t have a plan on going there like I did with the Greece/Italy blogs, but that place just kind of intrigues me. I wanted it to be a trip I went on way later in life not like Greece and Italy that I want go to right away when I get a chance. It intrigues me because of the beautiful clear waters, bleaches, and more. I’m really into history if you couldn’t tell from my last four posts, so just being in a area in which once pirates sailed the sea and had refuge on this island and many more is amazing. I also would love to go scuba diving to have a chance to find some pirate artifacts and even find some gold coins on the bottom of the sea floor. I plan on visiting the Caribbean in the future if I ever have time and some spare change. I think it would be a fun and amazing adventure to go there and experience all that.

If or when I do go to the Caribbean I would go to Cayman island. It was an interesting island. It was small, weird name, isolated, and a weird shape too. That started my interest in that island. I found that island on a game I played when I was younger. That game had you choose anyplace in the world and you got to build a base there. If I go there I would want to get a place by the beach, so I can watch the sun set and go to the beach anytime I would like. When I’m at the beach I would take a dip in the water or go fishing and have fun. I would definitely go scuba diving in the water just to be around the fish and to see what I looks like to be in that area underwater and have a chance to find some treasure, but that’s just a perk. I would like to see what the bottom of the sea looks like and the land scape too. That trip would be helpful for anyone’s mental state and it could help clear the mind if you are stressed or even anxious. I think it would help me with both of those. I sometimes get really stressed and really anxious and could really use a refresher and I think that this trip could be. I hope this interests you into wanting to know more about this island or even look it up and visit there.

Tour Blog’s

My first blog tour is Nicks RCTC Blog. As I was looking over Nick’s lastest project “Trans Am Firebird Coin” he goes over how he’s going to start his project and he starts by telling us what that coin really means to him and his family and how he got it. I like how he starts it. It’s a good attention grabber. It makes you more interested because it’s personal and who doesn’t what to know more about someone. Next he tells us that he will be creating a replacement trans am coin for the steering wheel. After that he tells us that it would be impossible for the black from the coin to stand out with the engraving. He says that a way he could do it was by cutting wood and doing then so the engraving would show better, but the coin would look cheap. I don’t think he wants that. He plans one cutting colored tape and the acrylic because it would keep the image centered in the acrylic coin. He says that he would have to cut them at the same time which sound like a challenge. Like we discussed in class this blog is mainly focused toward the handy man type of people or the people that like to laser cut pictures or engravings into things. I really like that he is enjoying doing this and just not taking the easy way out like he could have with the wooden coin. He made it a challenge and went for it to look good.

My second blog tour is Sarah’s English Blog. When I first logged onto Sarah’s blog the first thing I saw was “Is Donald Trump a Time Traveler” which was a weird thing to see and kind of funny. When I first read that it makes me think that it will be a funny blog and that you shouldn’t take it seriously. Which is good. That means it won’t be boring. At the beginning she goes on to tell us what Trump is. What his occupation is. When she asks a question that if he was an interdimensional time traveler. I really enjoys reading this blog because she brought up some good points to look at. It was pretty interesting to think about at the end and it made you question if that could be a thing. Time travel. Interdimensional travel. She really goes in depth about her reasons to think that he was a time traveler and it’s also a really unique blog topic to choose from.

My third and final blog tour is my boy Lloyd’s. As I go down to his first blog he is on his second mentor blog. His second mentor blog is about Athletes and mental toughness. He starts off by telling us how that relates to him and his goals and priorities. Which is really good to have set and goal and having that be in it. Lloyd’s article related to me when he was talking about visualizing a situation and what the outcomes could be of that situation. I relate to that because I do that a lot when it comes to things I get anxious about like presentation, interviews, and just basically anything that is new to me. I really ended up enjoying this because it related to me and what I go though.

Italy

I originally choose Italy because from my childhood and mainly wanted to choose it based on how much my brother really liked it. When we played the game I mentioned in the mentor blog he would always choose Italy one of the best nations to pick from. On that game Italy always had his landmarks on it and it kinda interested me to know what they were, so I did and it was really cool. Even for being a twelve year old teenager. That game introduced my fascination in history, but my brother introduced me to getting interested in Italy.

Italy has been on of my top five places to go in the world because of all the ancient building and all that history things. The ancient building that I was the most interested in was the Colosseum. How and why it was there and also what did the warrior fight in there. I guess it was just the mystery about it that intrigued me. What also interested me was when I was sitting in world history in eighth grade and we learned about Pompeii. Pompeii was a ancient city in Italy that was destroyed in 79 AD by an eruption from the nearby volcano called Mount Vesuvius. Our teacher showed us pictures of the preserved ruins and also the bodies that lay there from that day. I could have gone to Greece and Italy in ninth or tenth grade I don’t remember, but my mother wouldn’t allow that to happen because of all the terrorism happening in the middle east. She was afraid that I would happen there and some of the most famous sites in the world, so I didn’t go. I hope to have a chance to make that trip in the future when I’m done with college.

The first ancient site on what to visit would either be Pompeii or either the Colosseum because they are both really old sights. The reason why I would like to visit Pompeii would be that it’s really old and it would feel like you were there with all those old artifacts there. The bodies would be cool to see, but a little weird. It would also be a once in a lifetime visit. Walking on a road or in a building that was once inhabited by ancient Romans and also see what they lived like. I would visit the Colosseum because of the historic significance and what could have happened there. I could really like to be able to walk though there and just see what it looked like. It would also be a once in a lifetime moment to see the Colosseum and to get some pictures by it, so I could remember going there when I forget. It would be cool just to say that I was there same with Pompeii. Saying that I visited two of the oldest sight on earth. That is my reasons why I want to go to these places in Italy and why I choose Italy also. I hope you enjoyed.

Mentor Blog for Italy

When I was younger my brother and I would play this game called World Conquer two and Levi would always choose Italy and I would always choose Greece or France to either go against him or join him. When we would go against each other he would always win basted off of land mass and more land to built factories on and more cities for population. I would always triumphant at the beginning based on my troops were closer to the border then his were so I could built entrenchments before he could, but after that he would always win due to a navel invasion. I choose Italy because of my brother liking to it and how much I have had to deal with it in my past even if it was just in a game.

In wanderessence1025’s blog “on returning home from Italy” starts off with a unique route. She starts the next four paragraph’s with “Two Weeks”. I haven’t saw anything like that before and I hope to never. Reading that was really repetitive or that could just be being extremely tired on a Monday morning. Damn Monday’s. The author really goes into detail about what she saw on the road which was really interesting. When I was looking for a blog I could only find one about the way back and a little bit of details which wasn’t that. I liked that it shows they path to and from Italy. It’s really a unique way to write from the traditional blogs, but I didn’t like it. I like the details abut the place because that’s where I want to be instead of on the road.

The blog starts off with her in Southern Paris, then it goes to the Onion-domed in Russian’s Cathedral, and then to Van Goth’s hospital room. She travels a lot to get to Italy and it kind of seems like she went around the world. She really travels a lot to get to Italy. When she’s in Italy she goes to Rome and visits the Colosseum to see the ancient art from 72-80 A.D. While she is on her trips she makes sketch’s of coffee pots at Domaine De Rasigous Aurifat, swimming pools, and architectural elements at Abbey De Fonteforide. When she coming back she saw a vast range of Vineyards which are notorious in Italy and France. If I was in control of this blog I would have started with what she experienced in Italy and what she did, then go to wats he saw on the was back home. I think that would have made for a more interesting start other then the two week thing she had going on for half of the blog. Also if she did go into Italy more she could have done a little history lesson about the buildings she went to and all of that jazz. What would have been a cool and interesting part of the blog and could have made it educational and showed people what Italy is like other then what is was like coming back. When it would have been a double purpose tool.

Greece

Originally when I thought had the chance of doing to Greece I was going to go there for a school trip and visit all the ancient sites and then after that travel across the Adriatic sea to Italy, then go to visit places there. My only interest was going to see the ancient sites in Greece because I was beyond fascinated then I was younger and still am. When the class was were told about the final project I immediately though of traveling and how I wanted to go to Greece, so here I am.

When I was searching for a mentor blog I can across a lot of blogs which is just fine, but II wanted more detail and some history about these pictures that were taken. I came across Leedy’s post and there were a lot of pictures and some details and even some tad bits of history which made that blog the one. It really wasn’t the location that I was most interested in, but I read the history and thought it would work. While reading Leedy’s blog it peaked my interest more until I wasn’t so wanting to go back and choose another location in Greece. I really like the history about the Old fortress. That part really was interesting on when it was made and the style that was used and that it was the only style building in Greece which made it unique. Leedy went over a lot of things in her blog post like locations, events, interesting facts, history, and more. The locations she took pictures of are lanterns, a map of the historic quarter, the Museum of Asian Art of Corfu, older style buildings, Mc Donald’s, Old Town, the Old Fortress, and a ton more! The most interesting picture in her vast collection from her trip was the pictures of the Old Fortress. I likes those pictures because I have been always a fan of all wars. Expressly ancient ones. What fascinates me a lot is how they fought and what they did during those wars that brought them victory. I like to look at how much has changed over the thousand of years. I liked the history in which it was made and the Royal residents that lived inside of it. Expressly during WWII. You wouldn’t think that an old fortress would be used to hide in during those modern times, but they were. Some of her pictures made me feel like I was there and experiencing them myself but I wasn’t. I don’t know if the pictures were that good or it is that I really want to go there. I looked further on her blog and found more places that she has visited and that she travels a lot. She is like TripAdvisor but on WordPress. I really enjoyed reading though her blog and learning about Corfu, Greece. She really made it interesting and didn’t bore me to death. That will be my conclusion to my blog post. See ya next week.

Mentor Blog for Greece

I’ve always wanted to travel Greece ans the islands around it. I was always fascinated with the history around this reign. It is really unique as one of the first notable civilizations to pop up in the world. A lot of the remains of the civilization still stand today. We can see what they did what events went on and what there out come was. I was always interested in the time period 420 B.C When the Spartans were around and the battles that they were involved in.

One of the many mentor blogs that I choose is “The Old Historic Quarter, Corfu, Greece” by CadyLuck Leedy. The author published this blog pretty recently she published it March of this year, so she had to gone earlier this year or late last year. She posted a lot of pictures of her journey and what she saw. In these pictures they are all the attractions and interesting places to go in the Old historic Quarter. She also includes a little bit of history into her post at the beginning.

The first interesting picture to me was a picture of a map showing what there is to do on the island. The map included parts of Corfu port and the old historic quarter. The map covers all the areas of interest and what there is to see. She goes into the history of the old fortress that lays at the end of the sea. She goes to tell that in the Venetian age the castle was the grounds of the Royal Palace of St. George and St. Micheal. She goes to say that the walls of the castle are built from yellow Maltese limestone. That was commissioned by British Lord Sir Thomas Maitland of the Ionian islands to the North-West end of Corfu. The castle was finished in 1824 it was also used as Sir Thomas’s residence for the duration of his life. It was also served as the home for the Ionian senate. The castle was designed in the Greek revival style. It was the very first building in Greece to be built with that style. During WWII it was used again as the residence for the Royal family. I really enjoyed the history of the castle and what happened there. The Castle according to Leedy really held a strong presence for the Royal family over a vast amount of time even in WWII when castles weren’t really know for housing royal families like they did thousands of years ago.

After the history lesson on the old fortress. She shows a lot of pictures about where she was and what she had seen. She showed pictures of Lanterns, maps, statues, old buildings, art, and a lot of cool antiques that were around in all the gift shops. For me as someone that whats to travel here it really shows what there is to do here and some of the history of the area. With what Leedy has showed me make me want to visit the Old Historic quarters in Greece.

Reflection on Chapter 3

Today is the day that I finished my Tuesday post. I got home early before work instead of playing video games or enjoying the sun I’m inside writing this post. Man I wish I was outside, but I’m here. I finished my post today and I thought it was somewhat interesting. I really like that she included the time-lapse examples. They were pretty interesting to watch and see how much Noah and Lee have changed overall. I really want to know why they quit like was there a problem they came across then doing it. Like did they not have time, work, or outdated equipment? It’s a real mystery on why they ended the photos unless they kept going and that was just a portion of what they have. It kind of makes me what to do it, but I don’t really have the motivation to do this for so long. I’ll just get lazy one day and stop doing the photos and won’t ever do it again. It would be cool to see what has changed about yourself and it would be cool to share it to others too. I think the only two ways I would do it is if one I got payed or if the class did it and kept up with it and shared them. I like how she incorporated the photo booth example I don’t know what part of it I like. I think it was just the part that it goes no matter what if your ready or not. All I think of is my prom pictures. The photo booth was going to take the picture and I made a goofy face and it flashed and I stopped making the face and I laughed and it caught me mid laugh and I looked so weird. It was so embarrassing. I now pass on my knowledge of photo boothing for you to take advantage of. Again overall I enjoyed it from the examples of the time-lapse videos then to the photo booth example and to almost everything in the middle. I didn’t like how a good chunk of the stuff in the middle between the time-lapse videos and the photo booth. I was so boring and during that time I found myself wanting to stop reading and go to bed. I also took a lot of breaks and found out that there was a button that has a robot speak to you, so you could just listen. I found myself almost falling asleep to the voice of the robot.
